Well, a nine-book-series to be exact. Keep reading to find out how the books differ from the Netflix series!
If you’ve watching Netflix lately (let’s be real—that is all of us right now in COVID times), then you’ve most definitely come across the new Netflix series that’s been watched by over 82 million households. 82 MILLION. Set in the early 1813 Britain, where twenty-one-year-old Daphne Bridgerton embarks on an exciting quest to find a husband—and the best part—this historical romance was adapted from a book series by Julia Quinn. That’s right! All the more reason to read, am I right?
While the initial thought of a husband at twenty-one might puzzle some, those were different times, and one where women were courted by respectable, gentleman with more class than we see in today’s society. So, why has Bridgerton captured the hearts of so many women—and men—across the world?
Well, for starters, love is in reach for all. Whether you are Daphne, Anthony, Marina, or even Penelope, all were able to find love in some way, shape, or form. There is chase, humorous quips, and you cannot be disappointed with a fairy-tale ending.
Not all princes are perfect, and the Duke & DUCHESS are no exception.
What started as a simple arrangement of convenience led to two remarkable characters uniting on a journey to survive the socialite world of early Britain where all eyes are upon them, their actions are judged, and it’s nearly impossible for them to be alone together without tarnishing Miss Daphne’s reputation.
More importantly, it goes to show that not all princes, dukes, or boys are perfect. Enthralling us in this gripping love story, the author shows us that not every relationship is perfect, and the Duchess & Duke are no exception. There are quarrels and tiffs, but ultimately, love conquers all.
“ALL is fair in love and war.” Lady whistledown from the netflix original Bridgerton
Whether we want to admit it or not, there is a Lady Whistledown within all of us. Reveling in the gossip, there isn’t a single person who could deny the wonderful feeling it gives us to know that someone else has problems. We gossip all the time—online, at work, at school. We as humans are bound to gossip. It’s part of our psychology and it makes us feel good. So, when we find out who Lady Whistledown is, it shocks us all.
“A duel, a duel, a duel. Is there anything more exciting, more romantic … or more utterly moronic?” Julia Quinn, The DUKE and I
But as every adaptation, there are some differences between the book and the Netflix series. One of the noticeable changes that caught me off guard was that the Duke of Hastings is not an avid boxer. In fact, he doesn’t box at all in the books which makes me wonder if this was Netflix’s attempt as spicing up the show with some well-sculptured shirtless scenes of Regé-Jean Page.
Another distinguished difference is Daphne’s mother, Violet Bridgerton who approached the Duke more warily than she does in the Netflix version, to a point where he prohibits Daphne from being seen with the Duke.
But that’s not all! In Julia Quinn’s novel, The Duke & I, there are more main characters (and not all of them on Netflix are in the books!), secrets and twists, and more depth to some of our favorite characters. All the more reason to read Quinn’s novels!
Whether you’re an old-romantic soul or a young spirited romantic—these books are a MUST READ! It doesn’t matter if you’re an old-romantic soul or a young spirited lover—these books are a MUST READ. Full of daring duels, fancy balls, gorgeous gowns, and some very steamy romance. You can find Julia Quinn’s novels on Amazon, KOBO, Apple Books or Barnes & Noble.
